Caleb Goi is the owner of The Naturalist Grandeur in Singapore – our exclusive
partner there. He sent this photo of the lion dance he had at his store for
Chinese New Year. I have never asked
Caleb why but they love my grits honey scrub and marigold cleanser in Singapore.
Chinese New
Year Day was celebrated on January 23, however the Year of the Dragon begins on February 4, 2012, the first day of Chinese
Astrology. In preparation for the new year, the
entire house must be cleaned in a certain way and all cleaning equipment should
be put away. You must be careful not to sweep the dirt out the front door only
the back door. Whatever you do on New Year’s Day will follow you through the
year so no money is lent, no foul language and no crying or talk of death. Don’t
wash your hands on this day as you will wash away your luck and wear red.
Children and unmarried are given money in red envelopes for good luck. There are
other interesting taboos and or superstitions here.
